About Me

About This Blog

Songs mean a lot to me. In this Blog I am sharing songs that have specific meaning to me. My tastes are varied but lean particularly to Country.

The lyrics of a song have meaning to the writer. I know a song can be popular for the tune and beat. It is when the words find a connection with the heart and find a common experience in the life of the listener the song becomes a classic.

Here you will learn more about what makes me tick than you probably want to know. I also hope it gives you some pause for reflection too on joys, sorrows, successes and struggles we all face.

I'll give you the song title, album I found it on, and the lyrics. You can decide whether you want to download it from your favorite music site.

Ready For The End Of The World

The genesis of a great country song is a song about relationship. The same is true for a great christian hymn too. Maybe it is why I love both genres of song.

Here, the writer is putting in supplies for the heartache he knows is coming. He is preparing to go to a place he perceives as welcoming, accepting, non-judgemental, and safe when he faces the heartache and pain.

A good church will provide the same thing. There will be more about that in my regular Sunday post, tomorrow.

Song: Ready For The End Of the World
Artist: George Strait
Album: Somewhere Down In Texas

I know the end is near
I've seen the warning signs
Been preparin' myself
Layin' in supplies
I bought a case of Jack
A boxed-set of Merle
I'm gettin' ready
Ready for the end of the world

I'm gettin' ready for the end to come
That final hour it all comes undone
An' she drops the bomb
An' says she ain't my girl
I'm gettin' ready
Ready for the end of the world

My neon shelter waits
Where I can go to hide
While the memories burn
I'll be safe inside
With the honky-tonk few
Bracin' for the worst
I'm gettin' ready
Ready for the end of the world

I'm gettin' ready for the end to come
That final hour it all comes undone
An' she drops the bomb
An' says she ain't my girl
I'm gettin' ready
Ready for the end of the world

Yeah, I'll be ready
Ready for the end of the world

I don't like this one! If that's how he solves his problems- no wonder she's leaving!

I think Trisha ain't a bonafide C&W music lover!

What makes Trisha think that is why she is leaving?

This guy's solution is one many choose. I suspect you will find as many or more honkytonks as places of worship out there on the streets and roads of the world.

Understanding what attracts folks to those establishments might help you come up with a way to attract them to your church.

"Give beer to those who are perishing, wine to those who are in anguish; let them drink and forget their poverty and remember their misery no more." (Proverbs 31)

Am I suggesting this as the only and all encompassing solution to problems? You know it is not. But we should identify with the feelings found in the words of this song.

Sounds like Dennis read the Whole Scripture! Ha, Ha.

Actually, Country Western is one of my two favorite kinds of music. BUT, I don't like/appreciate EVERY country western song. This one I don't like.

Now last year (I think in terms of school years still), in the fall, guess that would be 2007, my favorite C&W was A Letter Me. Because, my son was then 17 and dealing with a broken heart. As in the song, in a mere little over a year, he has made significant maturation strides and has just gone back for his second semester at Harding. I so wanted him to understand he would get past that painful time.

I guess during 2008 my favorite song was Cinderella by Steven Curtis Chapman, a Christian artist. With 3 of our children being girls, and then the Chapman's own tragedy, I just felt it had so much meaning.

Guess I should start my own blog.

Yeah .. Trisha you should ... along with a LOT of other family members. I've have tried in vain for at LEAST a year to get "The Warden" to start one. But reading others "thoughts" often awaken or increases our own.

I like the "Songs about me" blog ... those of us with "Clanton blood" .. even if we don't bear the name ... have all been raised with the importance of music. Great blog Robb ... even if I do give you a hard time ... you are still my favorite of the brothers to Trisha and Sandra!
